SOURCE CODE LICENSES

There are 3 types of source code licenses:

  • "Customization Kits"

  • Platform Source Code

  • "Custom" source code

"Customization Kit"
is a catch-all phrase - as opposed to a formal naming convention -- to describe source kits pertaining to Neutrino Platform components whose source code is sold separately form Platform source modules. The primary purpose of customization kits is to allow tailoring by the OEM to fit a specific purpose, or to enable activities such as porting. Modified runtime components built using the customization kits do not incur additional royalties, since the re-distribution license is included as part of a platform technology.

Platform source code
corresponds to a specific platform (runtime) technology. Full source code to the platform technology is included, with thefollowing specific exclusions:

  • clearly identified technologies for which QNX has an intellectual property interest singled out for protection (trade secrets)

  • third party contributions for which sub-licensing rights are not provided for the source code

  • source code indentifies as part of a customization kit

Custom source code
covers those clearly identified technologies that are specially protected intellectual property of QNX for which we wish to exercise additional control over our confidentiality provisions. Guidelines exist for the pricing of these technologies on a case-by-case basis.
